Bradford Mela

2009 will be a big year for Bradford Mela when it celebrates it's ‘Coming of Age' on 13th and 14th June - marking the 21st anniversary of the original Bradford Mela.

The Bradford Mela in 1988 was the first event of its kind in Europe and this year’s event will see the same family friendly mix of quality outdoor entertainment, tasty snack foods, street theatre, market stalls, children's activities and funfair rides that made the first event so special.

The Mela brings together people all ages, from all walks of life and from all backgrounds. Although based on an Asian tradition, the Mela creates the opportunity for all communities to celebrate, share and develop an understanding of each other's cultures.

As the most established event of its kind in the UK, Bradford Mela leads the way, and has served as the model for Mela events in other cities.
Bradford Mela 2009 promises to be an extra-special celebration, with specially commissioned work and collaborations, new performance areas, more workshops to watch and take part in, a new look children's zone, and of course the best in local and international entertainment.
