Playbuilder Funding
The Department for Children, Schools and Families will be awarding in the region of £1million pounds to Bradford.
The Playbuilder Project was originally announced as part of a package of investment into Children’s Play identified in the 2007 Children’s Plan by the DCSF. The government have committed £235million ring-fenced funding to invest in up to 3,500 play areas across the country.
Bradford’s allocation has been weighted by child population and deprivation and will provide public play improvements to a minimum of 22 sites across the district.
The funding has been allocated via the DCSF, to Local Authorities Children’s Services Directorate. Bradford’s Director of Children & Young People Service, has asked the Play Partnership Executive to act as an advisory body to identify recommendations to feed into the project plan for delivery, which was submitted to the DCSF on 27th February 2009.
A task group of the Play Partnership has been established and is being convened by Leisure Services. This group is a multi-agency group who will be responsible for the implementation of the fund and the decision making process for successful applicants
The group consists of:-
- Leisure Services - Department of Culture, Media and Sport
- Children’s Services - Early Years Childcare and Play - Localities
- The Voluntary Sector
- Children’s Services Integrated Youth Support - Localities
- Department of Regeneration - Landscape Design Unit.
Community and voluntary sector groups are invited to apply for funding towards projects which meet the Playbuilder criteria which focuses on the overarching aim to deliver safe, accessible and exciting public play areas in every local area which has been informed by consultation and the participation of children, young people and adults.
